
Honor Guard Supervisors
Honor Guard Commander
The Honor Guard Commander is appointed by the Chief of the Department on the basis of past military experience, rank in the Department, and proficiency of skills. The Commander is responsible for the unit, and acts as liaison between the unit, the Department executive staff, event coordinators, and funeral directors.
Honor Guard Coordinator
The Battalion Chief of Training serves as the Honor Guard Coordinator. Responsibilities are performed in conjunction with the Richardson Fire Department Chaplain. The Coordinator is in charge of Honor Guard assignments, unit personnel, scheduled training, and notifying the Honor Guard Commander of any event requiring activation of the unit.
Duties and Responsibilities
Upon approval of the Chief of the Department, the Honor Guard will represent the Richardson Fire Department at various special events, including but not limited to the following:
Funerals
In line with the wishes of the family and operational limitations, the Honor Guard will attend funerals and offer the following services to members and their families:
Richardson Fire Department member line of duty death or off duty death
Member of another area fire department line of duty death
Civilian Employee (non-military or military)
Retired member of the Richardson Fire Department
Ceremonies involving flag bearing (posting of the colors)
Badge Pinning Ceremonies
Awards Ceremonies
Memorial Services
