Life And Fire Safety Clowns (LAFS)
  
LAFS is an international organization committed to the reduction of loss of life, property, and injuries caused by fire and other situations, through clowning and puppetry.
The LAFS Program is sponsored by the Richardson Fire Department and is available to all R.I.S.D. elementary schools. We do a 45 minute assembly style program for all elementary age children Pre K thru 5th grades, with the target being 1st thru 5th grade.
One of our goals is to reach as many children within the Richardson Independent School District as possible.
Our program is a high energy, educational show. We use music, puppets, sets, props, sound effects, and group participation to teach our life and fire safety messages.
The 45-minute program covers topics such as:
The ABC’S of Safety – “Always be Calm in an Emergency’’
Choking and the Heimlich maneuver
Calling 911
Swimming Safety
Pedestrian Safety
Bicycle Safety
School Bus Safety
Wearing your seat belt
Matches & lighters are tools not toys
Poison Safety
Smoke detectors
Exit drills in the home
Stranger Danger
Each program teaches important life safety behaviors and with a new show each year, the LAFS clowns are able to cover many different behaviors such as: Cool A Burn, Matches and Lighters Are Tools Not Toys, Gun Safety, Swimming Safety, Wearing A Seatbelt, Calling 911, Animal Safety, Smoke Detectors, and much, much more!!!
Our shows utilize different backdrops and settings each year including the Pirates of the Safety Seas, LAFS Fire house, LAFS on the Safety Trail, and The Safety Ambulance. The children are unexpected visitors and their participation and involvement is an integral part of our program.
LAFS also participates in special events such as the Richardson Homecoming Parade, the St. Luke’s Veterans Day Parade, the City of Richardson Christmas Parade, and city-sponsored events like the Wildflower Festival and Santa’s Village.
