As northern Richardson grew, Fire Station #5 was built in 1987. Fire Station #5 is located directly adjacent to the Richardson Police Department Substation.
In February 2001, Fire Station #6 was constructed and placed into operation to service the panhandle section of Richardson. Station 6 also provides mutual aid to the neighboring city of Garland. The station was built on approximately 1.24 acres of land and overlooks beautiful Breckinridge Park. It has a residential style of architecture, with gabled roofs and natural stone veneers which blend well with the architecture of surrounding neighborhood structures. The interior of the station includes six dormitory-style sleeping rooms, a separate Captain’s office and sleeping area, a fitness room, kitchen, and separate restrooms for male and female personnel. Next to the apparatus bay are areas for storage lockers, the SCBA air compressor, a shop, and a decontamination room.
