Some readers of the novel have observed that viewing the world through a dog’s eyes makes for a greater appreciation of being human. Why would this be so?

I completely believe that the key to bridging cultural, religious and political differences is through building relationships one individual (or three cups of tea) at a time. The wood and steel bridge that Mortenson had to put together before he could tackle his bigger goals is a perfect metaphor for the incredibly small steps (both forward and back) that are necessary before solutions to global problems are possible.
