October is National Crime Prevention Month
October is the ideal time to start a new or reactivate a stagnant Neighborhood Watch program in your neighborhood or apartment complex. If you are looking for an opportunity to hold a safety seminar at your office building or shopping center, this would be the perfect time to do so. If your church group or civic organization is looking for a topic for an October club meeting, this would be the month to engage crime prevention. October is National Crime Prevention month, and a perfect excuse to sponsor or facilitate a crime prevention program for your home, social, worship, or work environment. When you remove the opportunity, the crime cannot occur. Contact the Crime Prevention Unit for more information @ 972-744-4955.

HEAT/Vin Etching September 10, 2010
The Richardson Police Department in partnership with the North Texas Auto Theft Task Force and UTD will be offering free Vin Etchings and conducting H.E.A.T. registrations on Friday, September 10, 2010. This is a pre-National Night Out event.
Bring your vehicle to UTD between 10am and 2pm to take advantage of these two opportunities. The event is conducted on a first come first serve basis and only takes minutes to complete and is free of charge. The event will be located near the northeast corner of the UTD campus by the UTD PD building. Take Floyd Road north from Campbell Road. At the four-way stop sign at Lookout Drive, proceed north a short distance until you see a left turn lane. Just follow the signs and turn left into the parking lot to access the processing area.
VIN etching is used to deter auto theft. Car thieves who steal cars for resale or for parts will tend to avoid vehicles that have the glass etched with a VIN. VIN etching reduces the criminal’s profit, associated with replacing a vehicle’s windows and the windows themselves becoming worthless for resale. The event is conducted on a first come first serve basis and only takes minutes to complete and is free of charge.
Registering your vehicle HEAT program reduces the appeal of yoru vehicle to thieves by providing law enforcement your consent to stop your HEAT-registered vehicle if it is seen out on the roadways between 1am and 5am or prior to crossing the border 24/7/365 for the purpose of determining if an authorized driver has the vehicle. This program is voluntary and FREE.
Please check the Calendar of Event periodically for future HEAT/Vin Etching events.
