Traffic Light Repair

The Traffic and Transportation Division is charged with monitoring and responding to existing traffic conditions and planning for future transportation needs.  An important part of this division’s responsibility is the need to coordinate with other agencies at the local, county, state and national level to better plan and fund transportation projects. To monitor current conditions, the division staffs the Advanced Traffic Management Center, which allows real-time observation of intersections and adjustment of signal timing to accommodate traffic incidents and other situations that cause delay and congestion.  The Advanced Traffic Management Center is staffed from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Other responsibilities of the Traffic and Transportation Division include:

  • Coordinating the city’s Transportation Demand Management program, which is aimed at reducing congestion and air pollution by reducing the number of miles driven by city employees.
  • Performing studies for potential traffic signals, stop signs and speed limit changes.
  • Installing and maintaining street signs, pavement markings, crosswalks and school zone equipment.
  • Assisting with barricades and traffic control for special events.
  • Providing technical support to other city departments.
  • Offering special street use permits (links to information and application available under Quick Links).
