Governing
Body :

The City of Richardson is the governing body for the event:

  • Games will be played on an indoor court at least 50ft. long and at least 30 ft wide, divided into 2 equal sections by a center line.
  • The ball used in tournament play will be the Mikasa Official Dodgeballl.
  • Game begins when the whistle blows. Each team will start with 3 balls in their possession behind the end line. Once the whistle blows all players will step in bounds and all balls will be LIVE.
  • The object of the game is to eliminate all opposing players by getting them “Out”. This may be done by:
    • Hitting an opposing player with a LIVE thrown ball any where on their body, BELOW THE SHOULDERS.
    • Catching a LIVE ball thrown by your opponent before it touches the ground.

NOTE: All thrown balls will remain LIVE until they hit the ground or a wall.
For example if a ball is thrown and does not touch the ground before being touched by 3 players. All 3 players would be declared out if the ball subsequently hits the ground. The same goes for a situation in which a ball is thrown contacts 2-3 different people and then is caught by one of them. The person who threw the ball would be declared out. On the initial contact, if a person is hit above the shoulders, the player who threw the ball, PLUS ONE MORE PLAYER (to be determined by that team's captain) will be deemed out. If a player is hit above the shoulders off of a deflection, the person who threw the ball is not out.

  • During play all players must remain within the boundary lines. Each team will provide a designated Ball Shagger to retrieve balls. Players who step out of bounds to avoid being hit will be called out.
  • The first team to legally eliminate all opposing players will be declared the winner. If neither team has been eliminated at the end of the 3 minutes, the team with the greater number of players remaining will be declared the winner. If at the end of regulation a winner can not be determined as both teams have an equal amount of players remaining a 1 minute overtime period will start and the center line will be taken out of play once the balls have been retrieved. If after the 1 minute overtime period a winner still can not be determined the game winner will be determined by a coin flip.
  • An official match will be determined by the team that wins 2 games out of 3.
  • Substitutes or "Out" players must remain in the designated area to avoid being confused with those currently on the court. The designated area will be noted by the Event Coordinator and/or Cour Monitor.
  • Each team will be allowed 1 timeout per game.
  • In order to reduce stalling, a team player may be declared “Out” if that team is in the lead and controls all balls on their side of the court for more than 10 seconds. This penalty can also be called if both teams have the same number of players. The Event Coordinator or Court Monitor will pick the player to be removed. The Event Coordinator or Court Monitor will make the decision as to whether or not to enforce the penalty.
  • Rule enforcement will be enforced by the Event Coordinator or the Court Monitor. All participants are expected to leave the playing surface as soon as they are hit or a ball they have thrown has been caught.
