Community gardens provide many environmental benefits and improve the quality of life for residents of the City. The American Community Gardening Association explains that community gardens reduce city heat from streets and parking lots, preserve green space, beautify neighborhoods, conserve resources, produce nutritious food, provide a catalyst for neighborhood and community development, stimulate social interaction, reduce family food budgets, provide opportunities for intergenerational and cross-cultural connections, and provide opportunities for recreation, exercise, therapy, and education. Additionally, community gardens often donate a portion of their produce to local area food banks or other charitable organizations that help those in need.
