The City of Richardson today launched its MyRichardson mobile application for smartphone users. The MyRichardson application is available for Apple iOS and Android devices and provides users the ability to report a variety of issues.
“As the home of the Telecom Corridor® area, and as a focal point of the technology industry in the D/FW Metroplex, Richardson is proud to launch one of the first municipal mobile applications in the region,” said Richardson Mayor Bob Townsend. “The whole world is moving to mobile platforms, and our residents expect to be able to connect with us in that way as well. Because of that, we wanted to be among the municipal innovators in mobile applications, and we hope our residents find it to be a useful tool and another reason to love living here.”
The mobile application includes photo sharing and Global Positioning Satelite (GPS) services to attach pictures and coordinates when issues are submitted. Examples of reportable issues include potholes, broken curbs and loose animals.
Richardson’s new mobile application is available for download at www.cor.net/myrichardson, as well as the iTunes App Store and the Android Market.
Richardson launched its mobile strategy in 2010 when planning began for design of the City’s new website. The site launched in March 2012 with a mobile-friendly design built into the content management system. The system recognizes when it is being accessed by a mobile device and provides an easy-to-use menu for mobile users.
The next step was to create a mobile application that integrated with the website to allow many of the City’s online services on an even easier-to-use mobile platform. The City’s Information Technology Department programmed the mobile application internally and integrated it with the City’s already existing issues management service. By using existing staff, the City was able to save thousands of dollars in design and programming services.
MyRichardson Featured Services
The MyRichardson mobile application offers users the following categories of service.
- New Issues – Offers a listing of a variety of issues that can be reported. Examples include: broken curbs, potholes and loose animals.
- My Issues – Allows users to track the progress of their issues until resolved.
- News & Events – Provides access to the City’s news stream on municipal events, projects and services.
- Department Listing – Listing of City departments that allows access to City Web pages for those departments.
- Contact Us – Listing of phone numbers and e-mail addresses for City departments.
- Profile – Users can enter profile information to allow them to be updated by e-mail when their reported issues are being addressed.
