Food Service Permit Information

A Food Service Permit is required for all restaurants, grocery stores, cafeterias, bakeries, caterers, food trucks, etc., as well as commercial child care facilities.  Health permits are valid for one year.   The appropriate fee must accompany a permit application.  Home food preparation is not allowed except that which falls under the Texas Cottage Food Law.

The food service permit fee is based on the square footage of the establishment as follows:

Square Footage:

Annual Health Permit Fee:

2,0001 - 7,500

Over 7,500

Late Fee (30 days past due)

Commercial day care facilities
(regardless of square footage)

Health permits are not transferable,  if the establishment has a change in ownership  or is new or remodeled, one of the following fees may be due:

 Change of Ownership Fee

$50.00 one-time payment in addition to health permit fee when a business changes ownership.

Plan Review Fee $150.00 one-time payment in addition to the Health permit fee.  A plan review fee is charged to new establishments for the review of plans submitted during the building or remodeling stage.  The plan review fee and the annual health permit fee are paid when the establishment is ready to open.

If you choose to use the pdf form, you must include payment, including the late fee if applicable.  To renew online, you'll need the street number and permit number to log in, and you'll need a credit or debit card for payment.

If you have any questions regarding fees, or experience any problems with a link, please call the Health Department during regular business hours (8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday)  at (972) 744-4080.
