Water 
The water distribution system consists of over 550 miles of water mains (ranging in size from 4 inches to 36 inches in diameter), 13,000 water valves, and 4,000 fire hydrants. All these system parts are maintained, exercised, and repaired or replaced by crews in the distribution division.

 

Sewer 
The sewer collection system consists of approximately 525 miles of collection mains (ranging in size from 4 to 36 inches), over 3,900 manholes, and 1,825 main line clean-outs. There are five lift stations in the system which are all remotely monitored by the City of Richardson SCADA system. City of Richardson sewer crews perform routine and emergency cleaning, line stoppage removals, sewer taps, manhole construction, and clean-out installation.

 Meter

Meter 
The Meter Department is responsible for active residential, commercial, and industrial water meters. These meters range from ¾ inch to 2 inches in diameter. Water meters that are 3 inches and larger are replaced by contract under city supervision. All new meters installed have the capability of being read visually within the meter vault and remotely though a receptacle using a probe connected to a portable data acquisition device. The meter shop is also responsible for maintaining the city’s Backflow Device Prevention Program in compliance with Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) requirements.

 

Construction Rehabilitation 
Construction Rehabilitation conducts closed-circuit television inspection of all underground water, wastewater, and storm sewer mains. Information collected from the closed-circuit television inspections leads to the the repair or replacement of critical infrastructure.
