Inclusive Playground
Imagine a place where kids (and their families) with diverse abilities can come together and participate in meaningful play! The City of Richardson and Richardson East Rotary Club (RERC) have teamed up to "make it happen" by raising funds to build an inclusive playground in Richardson. This exciting and bold venture will not only create a great place for play, but also will create understanding of how kids of varying abilities can interact and play together!

The playground will be located on the site of the existing playground at Cottonwood Park. The current playground is scheduled for replacement through the City's 2015 General Obligation Bond program. This enhanced project will include elements such as ramps, inclusive play amenities and full solid surfacing for easier access. The fund raising goal for the inclusive playground is $250,000 with opportunities existing for grants, corporate and philanthropic contributions and community support.

Status Updates

As of mid-September, more than $31,000 had been raised for the Inclusive Playground. The first annual Picnic for the Playground was held June 17 at Cottonwood Park near the build site. Richardson East Rotary Club (RERC) presented a check for $10,000 to the City of Richardson for the project and a surprise donation of another $10,000 was announced from the Knickers or Nothin' nonprofit golf organization. RERC donated another $5,858 for the project from funds raised at its annual Rotary Cares fundraiser. Other funds have come from fundraisers at Kendra Scott, the North Texas Giving Day, and miscellaneous supporters in the community.
