The Special Operations Division of the Richardson Police Department consists of the Crime Prevention Unit, School Resource Officer Unit, Mobile Field Force, and the Honor Guard. |
Crime Prevention: |
- Provides Crime Prevention education to the entire community
- Conducts the annual Citizen Police Academy
- Conducts Liaison work within the community, including a police specialist within the Asian community
- Assists homeowner associations
- Assists apartment complex managers
- Assists businesses in striving for a crime free work environment
- Voted the “Best” Crime Prevention Unit in the State of Texas in 2003 for population size
- Voted #1 in the nation in 2001, 2005, 2007 & 2010 for National Night Out (category 3 for population 50,000 - 99,999)

School Resource Officer Unit: |
- Provides a safe learning environment for students and safe teaching environment for the professional staff
- Individual Officers are assigned to each High School, Junior High School and the Christa McAuliffe Learning Center. An officer is also assigned to work in the elementary schools.
- Increases the bond between RISD and the City of Richardson
