In May 1997, the Richardson Fire and Police Departments joined forces in establishing the Tactical Medic Team. This team of five Fire Fighter/ Paramedics and one Tactical Physician give medical, fire and special operational support to the Police Departments SWAT Unit.
Each member has a minimum of three years Fire/EMS experience and has undergone a strenuous selection process. After being assigned to the team, each member is sent to a basic SWAT school and Tactical Medic courses given throughout the country.
The Tactical Medic Team trains with the SWAT unit eight to sixteen hours a month in addition to special training sessions held throughout the year. The Team responds with the SWAT Unit on every mission and training event.
