GEICO, the second largest auto insurer in the United States, has agreed to sponsor the City of Richardson’s Corporate Challenge for the next three years, starting with the 2017 competition beginning in August.
“With its North Texas regional hub headquarters located in Richardson, GEICO has become an integral member of the community, and we’re excited they have committed to this multi-year sponsorship,” said Richardson Mayor Paul Voelker. “It is because of companies like theirs, and many others who have dedicated extensive time and countless resources to the event and its support of Special Olympics Texas, that the Corporate Challenge has become so successful over the past two decades.”
Now celebrating its 20th year, the 10-week, Olympic-style corporate competition engages more than 12,000 employees from companies around the Dallas/Fort Worth area, who take part in athletic and non-athletic events benefiting Special Olympics Texas and its local affiliate, the Richardson Roadrunners – the event’s beneficiary since its inception.
“GEICO is honored to partner with Special Olympics Texas and its local affiliate, the Richardson Roadrunners," said Dan Beacom, GEICO regional vice president. "The City of Richardson's Corporate Challenge is a wonderful event that captures the philanthropic and competitive nature of local organizations who are committed to supporting a great cause. Our associates are excited to take on this outstanding challenge.”
The Corporate Challenge is the only one of its kind in Texas and is believed to be one of the three largest multiday Corporate Challenge events in the U.S. It is celebrated and enjoyed by businesses looking to enhance employee relationships while also providing a platform to promote the concept of volunteerism.
The Corporate Challenge is produced by the Richardson Parks & Recreation Department. A managing board made up of a select group of company representatives and City employees developed the policies and procedures that rule and govern the events.
GEICO (Government Employees Insurance Company) is a member of the Berkshire Hathaway family of companies and is the second-largest private passenger auto insurance company in the United States.
