*As part of plans to increase the response to incidents of finding the West Nile virus in mosquito traps, targeted neighborhoods are sprayed twice.
**Spraying events begin at 9 p.m. and will end by 4:30 a.m.

The Health Department schedules mosquito spraying based on positive findings of West Nile virus either in people or from mosquitoes collected in traps placed around the city. Once located, the area around the positive finding is targeted for spraying on back-to-back nights (weather permitting) to help limit the spread of disease. The zones to be sprayed this week will be published as soon as results are returned from this week's trap tests. A video on the City's mosquito surveillance and safety efforts is available here.

The Health department follows an integrated pest management program developed in close collaboration with the Centers for Disease Control team of medical entomologists. The program is determined to be the best approach for disease prevention. Other activities in the program include public education, mosquito surveillance and testing, mosquito breeding site source reduction, mosquito larvae control and the adult mosquito spraying is the last method to help control the spread of disease.
