Here is the latest edition of Week In Review - a series of weekly messages from the Mayor and City Council to help Richardson residents and businesses keep up to date on events at City Hall. A list of links for stories in this edition is available at the bottom of the page.

Hall of Famer Joe Walsh to Perform at Wildflower! Festival
Joe Walsh, inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1998 as a member of the Eagles, will perform solo at the 20th Wildflower! Festival Saturday, May 19.

The renowned musician, singer and songwriter is working on his first solo album since 1992 and is best known for “Life’s Been Good,” “Rocky Mountain Way” and “Funk #49.”

The 20th Wildflower! Festival will take place May 18-20 at the Galatyn Park Urban Center.

Trail Rules and Guidelines Proposed
The City Council is considering rules and guidelines that would improve safety on Richardson’s growing network of trails.

The proposed rules are similar to those in effect for City parks. They include prohibiting motorized vehicles on trails, requiring pets to be on a short leash, requiring users to travel at a safe speed and requiring bicyclists to yield to pedestrians.

Suggested guidelines for trail courtesy and safety include passing slower users on the left, keeping to the right side of the trail, listening for other trail users who may be approaching, yielding when entering or crossing trails and wearing a properly fitting bicycle helmet.

Once in effect, rules and guidelines will be posted on the City’s trails web page, included on printed trail maps and displayed on signage which will be installed along the trails.

There are more than 30 miles of trails in Richardson, and more than 18 miles of additional multi-use trails are planned.

City Council Approves Garage Sale Permit Requirement
The City Council on Monday approved a new ordinance requiring people who hold garage sales to first obtain a permit. Permits will be available at City Hall or on the City website, www.cor.net, beginning April 1.

No fee will be required for a garage sale permit, which must be obtained by midnight the day of the sale.

The City limits garage sales to a maximum of three in any 12-month period at the same address, and no resident may conduct more than three garage sales in any 12-month period.

Rep. Sam Johnson Honors City Manager
At Monday night’s City Council meeting, U.S. Rep. Sam Johnson honored City Manager Bill Keffler for his 35 years of service to the City. Johnson read an entry that he has filed into the Congressional Record recognizing the contributions that Keffler has made to Richardson and the Dallas-Fort Worth region.

Johnson presented Keffler with a copy of the Congressional Record entry as well as a U.S. flag that had flown over the Capitol Building in Washington, D.C., in Keffler’s honor.

Chamber of Commerce Annual Meeting
Andrew Card, former Chief of Staff for President George W. Bush, will be the featured speaker at the 55th Annual Meeting of the Richardson Chamber of Commerce on Thursday.

Card has had an extensive career in government and business, including having served in three presidential administrations. He will discuss “The Discipline of Needs vs. Wants” at the Chamber luncheon.

Individual tickets to the event are $50 for members and $75 for non-members. The luncheon will take place March 22, 11 a.m.-1:30 p.m. at the Renaissance Hotel Dallas-Richardson, 900 E. Lookout Drive.

Methodist Richardson Cancer Center Needs Your Vote
The Methodist Richardson Cancer Center has been selected as a finalist to receive two grants from the LIVESTRONG Foundation. The grants will be awarded based on an online voting campaign which began this week and runs through March 23 at 5 p.m. Applicants with the top votes per region will receive a financial award of support to implement a sustainable program dedicated to supporting families fighting cancer.

Votes can be cast by following the two links below that support The Creative Center, Hospital Artist-in-Residence Program and Pillars4Life. More information on the programs can be found at each link.

“Sister’s Easter Catechism” at the Eisemann Center
The Eisemann Center’s ViewPoint Bank Theatre Comedy Series wraps up its season with the irreverent but entertaining “Sister’s Easter Catechism: Will My Bunny Go to Heaven?” Performances are 8 p.m. March 21-24 and 2 p.m. March 24 and 25.

Tickets are $37-$40 and are available online at www.eisemanncenter.com or by calling the Eisemann Center Ticket Office at 972-744-4650. The Ticket Office is open from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. Monday–Saturday and one hour before performances. Group discounts are available for 10 or more tickets.
