Rains Close Breckinridge Park; Cause Other Impacts

Breckinridge Park Flooding

Severe thunderstorms early this morning dropped 4 to 7 inches of rain over much of Richardson and the surrounding area bringing high flood waters and causing other weather related issues.

Breckinridge Park near Renner and Brand Road has been closed until further notice due to significant flooding at the park.

Overnight, Richardson’s Fire Department responded to a swift water rescue call in Garland to pull a woman to safety after her car got caught in fast moving flood waters. Three house fires were also reported overnight due to lightning strikes. All three structures were saved with no injuries reported. Richardson’s Police Department also responded to several reports of stalled vehicles and signal light outages.

Richardson's Office of Emergency Management reports another round of late-night storms are expected this evening. Those could bring an additional inch or more of rain to our area.

Residents are asked to exercise extreme caution around creeks and other areas prone to flooding. Water could rise quickly, even if no rain is in the immediate area.
