The Mayor’s Summer Internship Program was officially launched this week. Pictured from left are: Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Bill Sproull, RISD students, Mayor Paul Voelker and RISD Superintendent Dr. Jeannie Stone.
Mayor Paul Voelker, Superintendent of the Richardson Independent School District (RISD) Jeannie Stone and Richardson Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Bill Sproull joined four RISD students for the official kickoff of the Richardson Mayor’s Summer Internship Program.
The program is a collaboration between the City, RISD and the Chamber and will enable 50 incoming high school seniors to receive eight weeks of paid employment this summer at a local company or nonprofit. It is modeled after successful internship programs in several cities including Dallas and Plano.
Student and business recruitment is now underway to find local businesses that would like to take part in the program and to match them with aspiring students interested in learning more about future careers. Information for interested students and businesses can be found online at www.rmsip.org.
A career fair to match students with businesses will be held later this spring, with internships being made available to students who live within RISD boundaries. A limited number of positions will also be available for students who live in Richardson but do not attend RISD schools.
Businesses are encouraged to participate by contacting Mahsud Shamsid-Deen, RISD Director of Career and Technical Education, at email@example.com.
