Spring has officially sprung in North Texas and the City of Richardson’s Cottonwood Art Festival is preparing to host a series of must-see events for the entire family May 5-6, 2018. Nestled in scenic Cottonwood park, the juried art show, which has been a part of Richardson life for almost 50 years, will feature museum-quality work from national and local artists, live music, a children’s art area and more.

Must-see events include:

Museum-quality art exhibits: This year approximately 1,400 artists from around the country submitted their work to be considered for the show. Jurors selected over 240 artists to exhibit and sell their museum-quality work. The artists also compete in 14 categories ranging from ceramics, digital, photography, metalwork and more. A list of this year’s artists can be found on the event website.

ArtStop children’s area: In the center of the festival, pint-size Picassos can enjoy a wide array of art and craft activities. Children of all ages will have the opportunity to create a sculpture hat from scrap, design a masterpiece in plaster, add to an enormous collage or practice their hand at sculpting clay on a real potter’s wheel.

Culinary pleasures and craft beer garden: Cottonwood offers a tantalizing selection of unique and tasty culinary delights that will satisfy everyone’s taste buds. Cottonwood also offers an epic lineup of craft beer from local breweries, including Deep Ellum Brewery selections, Community Witbier, Bishop Cider, Shock Top Lemon Shandy and more. Once again, the festival will also feature Mimosa Mornings beginning at 10 a.m. each day, giving the early birds an opportunity to have a delightful morning beverage.

Live music: Cottonwood isn't just about the art. The festival features local bands who perform the best in rock, country, jazz, blues, swing and folk. Visitors can grab a seat in the Lakeside Courtyard and enjoy a view of the lake, enjoy a refreshing beverage and listen to live music. Performers include Kirk Thurmond & The Millennials, BK Stricker & The Kinds, Danni & Kris, Alton Bridge, Darrin Kobetich and more. A full list of scheduled musical performances is available on the event website.
