Mayor's Summer Internship Program Prepares For Second Year
The 2019 Richardson Mayor’s Summer Internship Program (RMSIP) was featured at a Valentine’s Day luncheon yesterday, held to solicit participation and show appreciation for area business leaders interested in getting involved with local schools.
The event was hosted at Methodist’s Campus for Continuing Care and promoted partnerships between the business community and Richardson Independent School District. Now in its second year, RMSIP is a collaboration between the City, RISD and the Richardson Chamber of Commerce that enables incoming high school seniors to receive eight weeks of paid summer employment at a local business, nonprofit or government agency. Students gain invaluable real-world experience and exposure to careers in which they’ve expressed an interest, work 20-40 hours per week and earn a minimum of $10 per hour; employers invest in Richardson’s future workforce and get to know some of RISD’s most motivated talent.
Program coordinators hope to double participation of both students and employers this year through greater outreach. Student applications will be accepted through March 22 and employer commitment forms will be accepted through April 1.
