Library Reveals Plans for 60th Anniversary Celebration

Post Date:03/29/2019 4:05 PM

Library staff gave City Council members a glimpse back into the Library’s storied history Monday during an update on plans to commemorate the City’s 60th year of providing library services. The presentation included several vintage photos and recently restored and digitized film footage of the current Library building’s 1969 groundbreaking.

Richardson library services began in November 1959 in a new, 5800-square-foot building on Tyler Street, after a store on Main Street (Cash Dry Goods) housed a collection of books for adults and children for a few years. The 60th anniversary celebration will officially kickoff June 1 with a party featuring activities for all ages, and additional events are planned for the fall. A commemorative 60th anniversary library card is already available for patrons.
