Sept. is National Preparedness Month

Post Date:09/05/2019 4:26 PM

September is recognized as National Preparedness Month to help promote family and community disaster and emergency planning now and throughout the year.

In Richardson, the Office of Emergency Management provides residents with information, tips and tools to prepare your family, home and neighborhood.

“We definitely want to be prepared for things like high wind or power outages, which in Texas can become very dangerous. As well as tornadoes, which are obviously one of our biggest threats to the area,” said Alisha Gimbel, preparedness and mitigation coordinator for the Office of Emergency Management.

This week, a series of colorful roadside banners were installed along Plano Road in Richardson to let residents know where they can go to make a plan, build a kit and sign up for alerts that will keep them self-sufficient for at least 72 hours when dealing with natural disasters and other emergencies.
