Group Makes Masks for MRMC

Post Date:04/01/2020 1:38 PM

RICHARDSON – It started with a post on social media, Richardson neighbors looking for ways to get involved in the fight against COVID-19 and it quickly developed into a lifesaving mission for local health care workers.

A group of seamstresses are making 600 masks with ribbons, 100% cotton sheets and other fabrics and they are on their way to reaching their goal.  Once complete, the group is planning to donate the masks to doctors and nurses at Methodist Richardson Medical Center.

“It’s joyful to know that a community can rally around something like this and support the local hospital,” said volunteer coordinator, Janet Rock.

If you’re interested in making your own mask here’s what you will need:

  • A sewing machine
  • A good pair of scissors
  • Hand sewing needles
  • Extra sewing machine needles
  • Fabric marking pens and pencils
  • Measuring Tape
  • Thread
  • A cutting board
  • A magnetic pin dish and pins
  • Seam Ripper
  • Extra bobbins
  • Iron and ironing board
