RISD District-Wide Student Art Exhibit Opens
This annual exhibition of artwork by Richardson Independent School District students was created by the Eisemann Educates program and provides a venue for young artists to showcase their talents and get a taste of life a s a professional artist. A reception at the Gallery honoring the students takes place Tuesday, Feb. 15 from 5 p.m. - 6:30 p.m. and is free and open to the public.

"Architecture and Religion" Online Panel Discussion
Hear how architecture can shape and influence religion, culture, and a region of the world. Panelists include Dr. Nils Roemer (moderator), Dr. Zufigar Ali, Dr. Hasnain Walji, and Dr. Fernando E. Rodrigues-Miaia.

Black History Month Bookmark Contest
Illustrate an important person or event from past or modern Black history for a chance to see your art in print—the winning designs (one for children, one for teens) will be featured on new bookmarks that will be available in Youth Services beginning in February. (Check out last year’s winners in a display currently set up in Youth Services.)
Contest sheets are available at the Youth Services Desk.
Eligible entrants: Children and teens ages 5-18

RCAS Exhibit at Richardson City Hall/Civic Center
The Richardson Civic Art Society has installed a new exhibit on the north wall of the City Hall/Civic Center’s main hallway, featuring 19 paintings created by RCAS members. The colorful display includes framed creations of varying sizes, with subjects including still life, crashing waves, a pensive gorilla, rodeo life, a Paris streetscape, and more. Most are available for purchase; contact information is posted within the exhibit.

Watch this hysterical, murderous musical about a distant heir to a family fortune who seeks to speed up the line of succession.

"Drop Dead" Opens at Richardson Theatre Centre.
In this original adaptation of the screen play by Robert Riskin and the short story by Samuel Hopkins Adams, a renegade reporter trailing a young runaway heiress for a big story joins her on a bus heading from Florida to New York, and they end up stuck with each other when a bus leaves them behind at one of the stops. The play is being restaged by the company after its 2016 premiere at The Core Theatre.

Annual Chinese New Year Festival: POSTPONED until Saturday, Feb. 12 due to expected severe weather
The Chinese New Year Festival scheduled for this weekend is being postponed until Saturday, Feb. 12, due to this week’s expected severe winter weather. The event will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Richardson Core District at DFW Chinatown located at 400 N. Greenville Ave.
The Chinese New Year Festival is presented by the City of Richardson, in partnership with its CORE District members, the Dallas Chinese Community Center and DFW Chinatown.

Submit Valentine Cards for Seniors, Health Care Workers through Feb. 7
Cottonwood Art Festival staff are hosting the second annual “Art of Love” Valentine card campaign, asking the public to get creative and help spread some joy to seniors and front-line medical workers/staff through Valentine cards. The staff will collect the cards and take them to senior and medical facilities throughout the community. Last year’s inaugural initiative generated more than 3,000 cards.
To participate, create or purchase one or more Valentine cards. Write a short message inside, draw a picture or share whatever inspires you. Envelopes are not needed for individual cards.
Once completed, submit card(s) by one of the following ways:

This exhibit, previously scheduled to open Jan. 14, explores the inter-relationship of printmaking with other contemporary art media (drawing, painting, sculpture, video and photography); as well as fresh approaches regarding new and traditional printmaking concepts.
