Annual Peanut Butter Drive
The annual North Texas Food Bank Peanut Butter Drive is held each September in conjunction with Hunger Action Month to benefit local food banks. Richardson is again participating along with several other North Texas cities. Peanut butter is perpetually on food bank lists of most-needed foods, since it’s nutritious, kid-friendly and high in protein.
Time: Sept. 1-30
Location: Donations can be made at the Network of Community Ministries, 1500 International Pkwy. (Monday-Wednesday 8 a.m.-4 p.m., Thursdays 8 a.m.-7 p.m. and Saturdays 9 a.m.-2 p.m.) or online through Amazon. Additional drop-off locations include Heights and Huffhines recreation centers, Senior Center, Gymnastics Center, Huffhines Tennis Center, Richardson Public Library (open through Sept. 9), Police Headquarters and Fire Headquarters.

“Last of the Boys”
Ben and Jetter fought in Vietnam and have remained united for 30 years by a war that divided the nation. They are joined by Jeeter’s new girlfriend and her mother for one final hurrah at Ben’s remote trailer.

“Misery”
This story, based on a novel by Stephen King, follows successful romance novelist Paul Sheldon, who is rescued from a car crash by his number one fan, Annie Wilkes. He wakes up captive in Annie’s secluded home. She reads his latest book and becomes angry when she discovers the author killed off her favorite character. Annie forces Paul to write a new novel, and his life depends on his writing.

RSO Photo Competition
The Richardson Symphony Orchestra is seeking photographs of Richardson to feature in its November 2023 “American Landscapes” concert. Images selected from the submissions will be projected onto a 440-square-foot screen above the orchestra, part of a choreographed visual and sound experience.
Submitted photos should represent what makes Richardson a special place to live and visit.

CJ Miller’s “Emotional Rollercoaster”
“Emotional Rollercoaster,” a solo exhibition by Dallas artist CJ Miller. This immersive collection features more than 10 large paintings that are each paired with a specific song to create an environment that takes attendees through various emotions.
Time: Available during the Eisemann Center’s normal business hours

Darbey’s StoryWalk®
Enjoy the August edition of Darbey’s StoryWalk®. This month’s book is titled “What the Dinosaurs Did at School” written by Refe and Susan Tuma. This book is a goofy celebration of starting a new school year. Learn lots, have fun and try not to get into too much trouble like these dinos.
Darbey’s StoryWalk® is all about movement and reading, as it enables visitors to walk along a designated path behind the Library while reading pages of a children’s book posted at 16 different stations.

Richardson Rotary Club: 85th Legacy Community Grants Project
The Richardson Rotary club announced its 85th Legacy Community Grants Project. The Rotary Club will dedicate $18,500 to funding specific community projects. Applicants can apply for a $1,500, $2,500, $5,000 or an $8,000 grant. The winners will be announced Sunday, Oct. 29 at the Richardson Rotary Club's 85th anniversary celebration.

Richardson Real Heroes Awards Ceremony
The 13th annual Richardson Real Heroes Awards Ceremony will be an exciting night as the 2023 recipients, Warren Caldwell and Barney Carbajal, are honored for their volunteer service to the Richardson community. The special guest of the evening is Dallas radio broadcast legend Norm Hitzges. Former Richardson City Manager Dan Johnson will conduct an interview and conversation with Hitzges, who will entertain the audience with stories of his 50-year broadcasting career.

Light Up Lockwood

Get On Board Application Reception Event
If you’ve ever thought about volunteering to serve on a City board or commission, this informal, come-and-go event is for you. The Richardson City Council will be present to meet with residents. City staff liaisons for each board and commission will be at separate information tables to answer questions about board service. Attendees will have the opportunity to apply for a board or commission on site.
