Annual Peanut Butter Drive
The annual North Texas Food Bank Peanut Butter Drive is held each September in conjunction with Hunger Action Month to benefit local food banks. Richardson is again participating along with several other North Texas cities. Peanut butter is perpetually on food bank lists of most-needed foods, since it’s nutritious, kid-friendly and high in protein.
Time: Runs through Sept. 30
Location: Donations can be made at the Network of Community Ministries, 1500 International Pkwy. (Monday-Wednesday 8 a.m.-4 p.m., Thursdays 8 a.m.-7 p.m. and Saturdays 9 a.m.-2 p.m.) or online through Amazon. Additional drop-off locations include Heights and Huffhines recreation centers, Senior Center, Gymnastics Center, Huffhines Tennis Center, Richardson Public Library (open through Sept. 9), Police Headquarters, Fire Headquarters, Service Center and Richardson IQ HQ.

“Misery”
This story, based on a novel by Stephen King, follows successful romance novelist Paul Sheldon, who is rescued from a car crash by his number one fan, Annie Wilkes. He wakes up captive in Annie’s secluded home. She reads his latest book and becomes angry when she discovers the author killed off her favorite character. Annie forces Paul to write a new novel and his life depends on his writing.

RSO Photo Competition
The Richardson Symphony Orchestra is seeking photographs of Richardson to feature in its November 2023 “American Landscapes” concert. Images selected from the submissions will be projected onto a 440-square-foot screen above the orchestra, part of a choreographed visual and sound experience.
Submitted photos should represent what makes Richardson a special place to live and visit.
Time: Sunday, Sept. 17 (deadline to submit pictures)

CJ Miller’s “Emotional RollerCoaster”
“Emotional RollerCoaster,” a solo exhibition by Dallas artist CJ Miller. This immersive collection features more than 10 large paintings that are each paired with a specific song to create an environment that takes attendees through various emotions.
Time: Available during the Eisemann Center’s normal business hours

Sept. 6
Darbey’s StoryWalk®
Enjoy the September edition of Darbey’s StoryWalk®. This is the last book that will be installed as the Library gets ready for its big move. This month’s book is titled “Marta! Big and Small,” written by Jen Arena and illustrated by Angela Dominguez. This book is a nod to Hispanic Heritage Month which is Sept. 15-Oct. 15. It incorporates Spanish vocabulary into the text. The book is short and simple, but a lot of fun with opportunities for tiny readers to move their bodies around like the animals they see in the story.
Darbey’s StoryWalk® is all about movement and reading, as it enables visitors to walk along a designated path behind the Library while reading pages of a children’s book posted at 16 different stations.

5’n Wine Social Run with Whole Foods Market

Simple Steps to Help Prevent Falls
Falls can be scary, and it may feel like there’s nothing you can do to keep yourself safe. However, falls aren’t inevitable, and you can take steps to help prevent them. Join the Richardson Senior Center to learn important facts about falls and what you can do, if you or someone you know has fallen or is at risk of falling.

Sept. 8
“Winsor & Gertie”
This is a historical play that combines a live performer (Winsor) interacting on the stage with an animated dinosaur (Gertie) in restored classic film footage accompanied by live music. The play revives the history and vaudeville act created by American cartoonist and animation pioneer Winsor McCray in early 20th century America. This play brings together, for the first time at UT Dallas, an interdisciplinary collaboration between the areas of animation, music and performing arts. There will be a pre-show conversation with the playwright, Donald Crafton, and Dr. Christine Veras on both performance nights at 6:30 p.m.

“Symphonic Tribute to Elvis” is presented by Diamond Horseshoe Productions
Kraig Parker returns to the Eisemann Center with his authentic and world-class tribute to Elivs Presley. This performance showcases a full 18-piece orchestra conducted by Bryan English. There will be a VIP show that includes an intimate, unplugged performance by Parker, a meet and greet, CD, autographed picture, VIP band and front-line privileges to the after-show meet and greet.

The IQ® Brew is celebrating the one-year anniversary of The IQ®HQ. Richardson Real Heroes Awards Ceremony
The 13th annual Richardson Real Heroes Awards Ceremony will be an exciting night as the 2023 recipients, Warren Caldwell and Barney Carbajal, are honored for their volunteer service to the Richardson community. The special guest of the evening is Dallas radio broadcast legend Norm Hitzges. Former Richardson City Manager Dan Johnson will conduct an interview and conversation with Hitzges, who will entertain the audience with stories of his 50-year broadcasting career.

Get On Board Application Reception Event
If you’ve ever thought about volunteering to serve on a City board or commission, this informal, come-and-go event is for you. The Richardson City Council will be present to meet with residents and City staff liaisons for each board and commission will be at separate information tables to answer questions about board service. Attendees will have the opportunity to apply for a board or commission on site.
