Annual Peanut Butter Drive
The annual North Texas Food Bank Peanut Butter Drive is held each September in conjunction with Hunger Action Month to benefit local food banks. Richardson is again participating along with several other North Texas cities. Peanut butter is perpetually on food bank lists of most-needed foods, since it’s nutritious, kid-friendly and high in protein.
Time: Runs through Sept. 30
Location: Donations can be made at the Network of Community Ministries, 1500 International Pkwy. (Monday-Wednesday 8 a.m.-4 p.m., Thursdays 8 a.m.-7 p.m. and Saturdays 9 a.m.-2 p.m.) or give online through Amazon. Additional drop-off locations include Heights and Huffhines recreation centers, Senior Center, Gymnastics Center, Huffhines Tennis Center, Police Headquarters, Fire Headquarters, Service Center and Richardson IQHQ.

“And Then There Were None”
Ten strangers are summoned to a remote island. All that the guests have in common is a wicked past they’re unwilling to reveal and a secret that will seal their fate.

“Misery”
This story, based on a novel by Stephen King, follows successful romance novelist Paul Sheldon, who is rescued from a car crash by his number one fan, Annie Wilkes. He wakes up captive in Annie’s secluded home. She reads his latest book and becomes angry when she discovers the author killed off her favorite character. Annie forces Paul to write a new novel and his life depends on his writing.

RSO Photo Competition
The Richardson Symphony Orchestra is seeking photographs of Richardson to feature in its November 2023 “American Landscapes” concert. Images selected from the submissions will be projected onto a 440-square-foot screen above the orchestra, part of a choreographed visual and sound experience.
Submitted photos should represent what makes Richardson a special place to live and visit.

CJ Miller’s “Emotional RollerCoaster”
“Emotional RollerCoaster,” a solo exhibition by Dallas artist CJ Miller. This immersive collection features more than 10 large paintings that are each paired with a specific song to create an environment that takes attendees through various emotions.

Sept. 13
Darbey’s StoryWalk®
Enjoy the September edition of Darbey’s StoryWalk®. This is the last book that will be installed as the Library began its big move to their temporary facility. This month’s book is titled “Marta! Big & Small,” written by Jen Arena and illustrated by Angela Dominguez. This book is a nod to Hispanic Heritage Month which is Sept. 15-Oct. 15. It incorporates Spanish vocabulary into the text. The story is short and simple, but a lot of fun with opportunities for tiny readers to move their bodies around like the animals they see in the story.
Darbey’s StoryWalk® is all about movement and reading, as it enables visitors to walk along a designated path behind the Library while reading pages of a children’s book posted at 16 different stations.

IQ Brew Anniversary Celebration
The IQ® Brew is celebrating the one-year anniversary of the IQHQ. Moderated by Director of Economic Development Jenny Mizutowicz, the event will showcase Sr. Director of Engineering Ravi Gokhale from Allegro Microsystems, Chief Operating Officer Mark Cottam of Austin Circuit Design and Associate VP of Innovation and Commercialization Steve Guengerich from UT Dallas.

Richardson Real Heroes Awards Ceremony
The 13th annual Richardson Real Heroes Awards Ceremony will be an exciting night as the 2023 recipients, Warren Caldwell and Barney Carbajal, are honored for their volunteer service to the Richardson community. The special guest of the evening is Dallas radio broadcast legend Norm Hitzges. Former Richardson City Manager Dan Johnson will conduct an interview and conversation with Hitzges, who will entertain the audience with stories of his 50-year broadcasting career.

“Mrs. Harris Goes to Paris”
Join the Richardson Senior Center to watch “Mrs. Harris Goes to Paris.” The movie is based in 1950s London. It follows a widowed cleaning lady that falls madly in love with a couture Dior dress and decides she must have one of her own. After working to raise the funds to pursue her dream, she embarks on an adventure to Paris that will change not only her own outlooks, but the very future of the House of Dior. Membership to the Richardson Senior Center is not required.

“Late Nite Catechism”
The irrepressible Sister teaches class to a room full of students. Throughout the course of the class the benevolent instructor rewards the students for correct answers with nifty prizes. Naughty students may well find themselves on stage sitting in a corner reflecting their actions. However, even the most reluctant students will be clamoring to get into the Sister’s class.

Get On Board Application Reception Event
If you’ve ever thought about volunteering to serve on a City board or commission, this informal, come-and-go event is for you. The Richardson City Council will be present to meet with residents and City staff liaisons for each board and commission will be at separate information tables to answer questions about board service. Attendees will have the opportunity to apply for a board or commission on site.

Wellness and Safety Fair

Body Boost
