Harriet is a feminist publisher with a penchant for unsuitable men. Leonard is a stuttering statistician whose wife has walked out on him. Their lives become intertwined when Leonard submits his manuscript to Harriet’s publishing house, Love is All Around, under the nom de plume of Myrtle Banbury.

Pink! Curator Talk

UTD Professor Diane Durant PhD will discuss concepts and motivation behind PINK! as well as the artists included in the exhibition. The talk is free and open to the public, all are welcome.

Curated by Dr. Durant, Pink! is an art exhibition that is described as “a jolt, a juxtaposition, a precious nostalgia, an accident and a community.” Pink! will have sculptures and paintings to works on paper and photography.

Artist Talk & Concert: Humanizing the Homeless

Hear from Jonathan Palant, UT Dallas Associate Dean of the Arts and Director of Choirs, SMU professor of advertising Willie Baronet, and Canada-based artist Leah den Bok, who have been presenting the UT Dallas art exhibit “Humanizing the Homeless,” which aims to raise awareness of homelessness. Enjoy a live performance by the Dallas Street Choir, a musical group founded by Dr. Palant to support those affected by homelessness.

CityLine Fall Outdoor Music Series 

Live music is back at CityLine every Friday and Saturday night in September and October. Enjoy a variety of genres on the one-acre plaza including Americana, Latin, rock, country, blues, soul, pop and jazz. “Hound of the Baskervilles” 

The world’s most famous literary detective will arrive at the Repertory Company Theatre for the first show of its 2024-25 season. The play is adapted by Tim Kelly from the story by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.

First Fridays  

Eisemann Center Presents a small reception on the first Friday night of each month completely free and open to the public to celebrate the new exhibit in the Forrest and Virginia Green Mezzanine Gallery. Discover the profound power of love through the lens of artist, author, and motivational speaker CJ Miller in his upcoming exhibition, "Love Rollercoaster." This interactive art and music showcase will be on display from through Oct. 27 during regular business hours. Meet the artist at this month’s First Friday on Sept. 6.

Join cultural critic Dr. Beatriz Balanta for a performative lecture that invites participants to consider the aesthetic and sensorial arrangements that must be put into place to build spaces that nourish Black life and creativity. Balanta is the founder and executive director of BlackGround, a cultural production agency located in Cali, Columbia that promotes art, culture and scholarship from and about the African Diaspora.

FarYad 

Presented by Sheed Film, FarYad is a theatrical performance about an Iranian couple who clash over the decision to emigrate. The man is a singer at mourning ceremonies, while the woman is an underground singer. The man believes that the current situation is perfect for staying, whereas the woman desires to escape the current conditions and build a future for herself, her husband and their daughters in a free world.

“12 Angry Jurors” 

Adapted from the original televised movie, “12 Angry Men,” this is an American courtroom drama that explores the deliberations of a jury in a homicide trial, as they decide the fate of a teenager accused of murdering his abusive father.

Amit Tandon Stand Up 

Presented by OHO Productions, Amit Tandon’s brand of observational humor is refreshing and contemporary that has hit a chord with audiences across India. His viral videos have crossed the sacred mark of a whopping 100 million views across the social media platforms.

Optical Poetry: Oskar Fischinger Retrospective 

This program from the Center for Visual Music showcases Oskar Fischinger’s pioneering work in abstract animation and visual music. Fischinger, hailed as the "Father of Visual Music," influenced animators and filmmakers worldwide. He created iconic works such as "Allegretto" and "Motion Painting No. 1." and the groundbreaking 1930s Studies series, which debuted in theaters globally.

Tickets Available for Richardson Reads One Book Author Lecture 

Richardson Reads One Book author Brendan Slocumb will be at First United Methodist Church Richardson to give a lecture and sign copies of his book, “Symphony of Secrets,” at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 24. Clear the Shelters Final Day 

The Animal Shelter is participating in Clear the Shelters through Sept. 10. Now in its 10th year, this nationwide campaign helps connect pets with families by offering waived or reduced adoption fees. A $5 registration fee for Richardson residents will still apply. Those who are not ready to adopt can foster a dog by providing a safe and calm place until they find their forever home. Anyone interested in adopting or fostering can visit the Animal Shelter or visit www.cor.net/AnimalShelter.

Registration Open for Annual Gobble Hobble 

Registration is open for the 19th Annual Richardson Gobble Hobble. This event, featuring a Family Fun Run and 5K benefits the Richardson Boys & Girls Club. There will be a Fun Zone which includes a free photo booth, balloon artist and street games.
