Annual Richardson 2025 Art and Essay Contest
Writers and artists are invited to participate in Richardson’s Annual Martin Luther King, Jr. And Black History Month Art and Essay contests. Winning works will be published by the City with authors/artists receiving $200 and certificates of achievement from the Mayor and City Council. Students must live in Richardson, or attend school with the city, to be eligible to enter.Time: Jan. 1-31 (Essay submissions accepted)

New Year’s Camp
Registration is now open for the Heights Recreation Center for a New Year’s Camp. Kids ages 5-11 can enjoy various games, activities and winter-themed crafts both indoors and outdoors (weather-permitting). Please bring a lunch, water bottle, closed-toe shoes, a snack and warm clothes for the playground. An outside business will visit the camp each week to host a program.

First Fridays
The Eisemann Center hosts a small reception on the first Friday night of each month completely free and open to the public to celebrate the new exhibit in the Forrest and Virginia Green Mezzanine Gallery. January will feature North Texas Woodworkers Association.Time: 6 p.m. (Friday)

Join the Richardson Public Library for a Dog Man extravaganza with supa epic activities, games and fur-ocious trivia inspired by the Eisemann Center’s upcoming production of “Dog Man: The Musical!” Attendees can enter a prize drawing for a chance to win a family four-pack of tickets to see “Dog Man: The Musical” at the Eisemann Center or a copy of the brand-new book, “Big Jim Begins!”

CityLine LIGHTS
Join CityLine this holiday season to see more than half a million holiday lights that brighten CityLine in a cheerful glow. The moving icicle-styled lights in the trees and overhead lights draped over the plaza lawn will serve as a memorable backdrop for happy holiday memories. There will also be an 18-foot Christmas tree that will stand tall in the plaza for you to capture the perfect festive photo with friends, family and pets.

Adult Reading Club Winter Challenge Kickoff
Accept the challenge from the Richardson Public Library for the start of the year. Sign up at the kickoff event on Jan. 4. Then, read 1,500 minutes (20 per day) to win a gift back and other prizes! Healthier Texas Community Challenge
It’s almost time for the Healthier Texas Community Challenge. Formerly known as It’s Time Texas Community Challenge, the Healthier Texas Community Challenge is an eight-week health competition between communities across the state of Texas. Texans across the state compete and earn points by eating healthy, being active and staying hydrated.
Time: Jan. 13-March 9
Admission: Registration required
All participants that register before the start of the Challenge will be awarded 250 points.

Kidokinetics Sports Play
This program is designed to introduce kids to a variety of sports and activities like golf, tennis, basketball, baseball, football, hockey and more. Each week will feature a warmup, a new sport or activity, free play, cool down and an age-appropriate anatomy and physiology lesson.

Adaptive Trip to Texas Legends Basketball
Join the Heights Recreation Center and see the Texas Legends play basketball in Frisco. Travel by bus to Comerica Center. You will eat at Norma’s Cafe just down the street before the event. Please bring money for food.
