2025 MLK BHM Art and Essay Contest

Annual Richardson 2025 Art Contest 

Artists are invited to participate in Richardson’s Annual Black History Month Art contest. Winning works will be published by the City with artists receiving $200 and certificates of achievement from the Mayor and City Council. Students must live in Richardson, or attend school within the city, to be eligible to enter.

The Murder of Roger Ackroyd

“The Murder of Roger Ackroyd”

In this thrilling stage adaptation of Agatha Christie's ingenious 1926 novel, the tiny village of King’s Abbot is rocked by scandal when Roger Ackroyd, the wealthiest man in town, is found dead shortly after the apparent suicide of his fiancée.

Tax Return

2024 – AARP Free Tax Preparation Help 

Tax preparation appointments are available and will be held at both the Heights and Huffhines Recreation Centers. You must complete an AARP tax packet, available at the Library and Recreation Centers. You must also bring important documents such as a government-issued ID, the prior year’s tax returns and Social Security cards.

This new adaptation of Henrik Ibsen’s classic, “An Enemy of the People,” is set in a Texas suburb called Karen Springs and explores a local environmental crisis through a mix of personalities—a doctor, a teacher, a mayor, reporters, business owners and everyday residents—all tangled in questions of truth, justice, friendship and loyalty. As tensions ride and secrets unravel, the cast confronts the real questions: “Who is the true enemy of the people?”

Lee Young, First Modern Black Texas Ranger 

Join the Richardson Public Library to hear from retired Texas Ranger Lee Young as he discusses his 29-year career as a Texas law enforcement officer. He will also talk about the history of the Absentee Seminole Tribe of Texas as a descendant of Seminoles who fled to Mexico in 1850 to protect their freedom. This program is for adults and teens.

MOMIX: ALICE 

Travel down the rabbit hole MOMIX-style with Moses Pendleton’s newest creation “ALICE,” inspired by “Alice in Wonderland.” As Alice’s body grows and shrinks and grows again, Pendleton’s dancers extend themselves by means of props, ropes and other dancers.

Sammy Miller and The Congregation

Grammy-nominated drummer Sammy Miller has become known for his unique maturity and relentless focus on making music that feels good as drummer, singer and bandleader. Upon completing his master's at The Julliard School, Sammy formed his ensemble, The Congregation. As a band they are focused on sharing the poser of community through their music. Sammy and the band are returning for a fourth appearance by popular demand.

Dallas Asian American Youth Orchestra 2025

Dallas Asian American Youth Orchestra

The Dallas Asian American Youth Orchestra will host a matinee and evening spring concert. The matinee will feature the String Explorers, Junior Strings and Concert Strings orchestras. The evening concerts will feature the Philharmonic and Symphony orchestras as well as the Chamber group. Soloist and renowned pipa virtuoso, Dr. Yuxin Mei, will perform Pipa Concerto No. 2 by Zhao Jiping.

UT Dallas chess team Grandmaster Ivan Schitco and International Master Andrei Macovei, who will be blindfolded and unable to see the position of the pieces or touch them, will take on any student. The exhibition demonstrates how top players can “see” the chess board in their minds when playing.

The Great Richardson Baking Bonanza

The Great Richardson Baking Bonanza – RALC Murder Mystery Event (Tickets Available Now) 

Join the Richardson Adult Literacy Center (RALC) for the annual Murder Mystery Event. The first act of the performance will end with tragedy. Then, audience members will work together to figure out who is the culprit. Special guest performers include Richardson City Council member Dan Barrios, Amanda Pritchard with UT Dallas, Gavin Nichols with Farmer’s Insurance, Dave Swiney with Shady’s Burgers & Brewhaha, and Sally Grinsfelder, RALC supporter and winner of the 2024 guest actor auction.
