The City of Richardson has received confirmation from the Dallas County Elections Office that the ballot issue identified during early voting yesterday has been successfully corrected and all Dallas County polling locations serving Richardson voters are using an updated and accurate ballot.
Yesterday, an issue involving an error that caused City Council Places 1-4 to appear as single-member districts was identified. It involved voters seeing only one of the City Council races on their ballot based on their home address, when in fact all City Council Places (1-6) and the Mayor are elected at-large and should appear on every Richardson voter’s ballot.
Dallas County Elections officials identified the source of the problem as a ballot coding error. Dallas County Elections officials worked through the early morning hours and completed reprogramming and testing of the corrected ballot for all vote centers this morning. Election officials have confirmed all polling locations have the corrected ballot.
Mail-in ballots and voters who cast ballots before the correction was made will still have their votes counted, but are not eligible to vote again. The outcome of the votes cast for the affected races will not be impacted, as the affected races are uncontested.
Collin County voters were not impacted by the coding error that impacted Dallas County.
The City of Richardson appreciates the quick response and corrective action taken by the Dallas County Elections Office and will continue to work closely with them to ensure a smooth election process moving forward.
