Lane Closures at Renner Road & Custer Parkway Extended Through Oct. 20

Post Date:10/09/2025 9:33 AM

Work at the Renner Road/Custer Parkway intersection will continue through Monday, Oct. 20, 2025. Crews encountered an unanticipated concrete encasement around the water line, which requires additional time to remove safely before replacing the line.

Custer-Renner - 2025-10-09-Extended

Why the extension:
During this week’s excavation, crews discovered the water line was encased in concrete. Because multiple utilities run through this location, crews are carefully removing the encasement to avoid utility damage. To be more efficient and reduce future disruptions, the City will keep the current lane closures in place to (1) finish the water line replacement and then (2) move directly into pavement replacement instead of returning at a later date.

What to Expect

  • Lane closures at the Renner Road/Custer Parkway intersection remain in place through Monday, Oct. 20.
  • Crews will complete the water line work and immediately begin pavement replacement in the same work zone.
  • Travel delays are likely; please allow extra time and consider alternate routes during work periods.

Timeline

  • Original plan: Water line replacement work at this intersection was originally planned to cause lane closures Oct. 6-8 with plans to return later for paving.
  • Updated plan: Lane closures extended to Oct. 20 to finish water line work and complete pavement replacement now.
  • Next impact: After this phase is done, all street pavement work at this intersection will pause until summer 2026 to align with the PISD school calendar and minimize school-year impacts.

We appreciate your patience while crews complete this work safely and efficiently.
