City Council Budget Workshop Held; Public Hearings Scheduled for September
The City Council held its annual two-day Budget Workshop this week to review departmental needs, proposed projects and projected costs, and to give the City Manager direction on funding priorities for the upcoming fiscal year. The workshop was open to the public, and recordings are available online. 

The City Manager is scheduled to file the proposed FY 2026-27 budget on Aug. 14 and present it to the City Council on Aug. 17. Public hearings are scheduled for September before final adoption. The new budget will take effect Oct. 1.

Application Period for City Council Place 3 Vacancy Closes Tonight
District 3 residents interested in filling the vacant Place 3 seat on the Richardson City Council may apply online through Friday, Aug. 7, at 11:59 p.m. Applicants must meet the eligibility requirements listed on the application page. 

Appointment timeline: 

Current Place 3 Council Member Dan Barrios announced last month that he will resign from the City Council to pursue another elected office. He will continue serving until a replacement is appointed.

National Night Out Registration Now Open
Neighborhood leaders may now register block parties for the 2026 National Night Out, scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 6. The annual partnership between the Richardson Police Department and community partners strengthens crime prevention through neighborhood connections. Police officers, City officials and special guests will visit registered locations. 

This is Richardson's 37th year participating in National Night Out. Last year, the City placed second nationwide among cities of similar size for participation and number of events.

Canyon Creek and Terrace Pools Close Sunday   
The Canyon Creek and Terrace neighborhood pools will end their summer season Sunday, Aug. 9, at 8 p.m.  

Swimming will remain available at the Heights Family Aquatic Center, 709 W. Arapaho Road, on the following schedule:

Corporate Challenge Kicks Off Today 
Drivers near Huffhines Park should expect heavier traffic Friday evening, Aug. 7, as the annual Richardson Corporate Challenge begins.  

Coordinated by the City's Parks and Recreation Department, the event brings together employees from 45 local companies to raise money for Special Olympics Texas. Since 1998, the event has raised more than $3.67 million.

Main Street/Belt Line Work Substantially Complete 
Construction on Main Street in downtown Richardson is substantially complete, and no additional lane closures are scheduled. Work completed during the past three months includes: 

The multi-phase Main Street Reconstruction Project is designed to improve mobility, safety, infrastructure and the overall streetscape in Richardson's downtown area.

Richardson Chamber of Commerce Names New President 
The Richardson Chamber of Commerce announced this week that Tony Moline will become its president and CEO on Sept. 1.  

Moline comes to Richardson after leading the Cedar Park chamber for 14 years. During his tenure, the chamber tripled its revenue, grew its membership and earned five-star accreditation from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. The Richardson Chamber holds the same accreditation, a designation earned by 1 percent of chambers nationwide. Moline previously held similar roles in Coppell and Lufkin and graduated from Plano Senior High School.  

He succeeds Kim Quirk, who became interim president in April. Quirk will continue as executive director of Leadership Richardson. 

Jupiter Road Lane Closures South of Bush Turnpike 
The left and center lanes of southbound Jupiter Road between the westbound President George Bush Turnpike frontage road and Infocom Drive may be closed to traffic from 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m. for manhole rehabilitation. The project is expected to be complete by late August, weather permitting. 

Fiber Optic Work Closes Lane at Campbell and Jupiter 
The right lane of eastbound Campbell Road between Meadowcove Drive and Jupiter Road may be closed to traffic from 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m. for fiber optic work. The project is expected to be complete by late September, weather permitting.
