All dogs and cats 4 months and older must be vaccinated against rabies by a licensed veterinarian.

New City Registration

We want to ensure that pet owners are informed about important updates regarding animal microchipping and licensing. With the recent addition of ordinance 5-8b, the city has streamlined its requirements: pet owners are now only required to have their animals microchipped, which is a one-time procedure. While rabies vaccinations remain mandatory under Texas state law, annual registration with the city is no longer necessary. Microchipping provides a permanent form of identification for your pet, significantly increasing the chances of a safe return if they ever get lost.

Citizens can email the shelter the microchip numbers of their pets for them to be entered into the system for any future reference.

What is a microchip?

A microchip is a permanent form of identification. About the size of a grain of rice, it is injected beneath the surface of your pet's skin between the shoulder blades. The microchip can be read by a microchip reader that will pick up the chip's unique ID code to identify the pet.

How do I get one?

We offer a one-time microchipping (and microchip enrollment) for $15 per pet at the shelter. Appointments are required. Link to schedule an appointment can be found here.
