Building on Our Past for an Ambitious Future
Envision Richardson is a full update of the City of Richardson’s Comprehensive Plan. It covers the extent of the city’s 28 square miles to form a blueprint for achieving the community’s vision for the next 20 to 30 years. The Plan is a joint effort between the City Council, the City Plan Commission, and the community in order for it to be relevant and in a form that is understandable to the public, the development community, City officials, and the City’s professional staff alike. The Envision Richardson Comprehensive Plan Update project launched in the spring of 2023 and, following three public hearings, the plan was approved by the Richardson City Council on November 11, 2024.
Public input was key to making Envision Richardson truly comprehensive, with input from the residents, the community partners, and the businesses and their employees that make Richardson strong. The public involvement process was developed utilizing three Community Summit periods.
Throughout the project, City staff distributed information and gathered input by making presentations to the City Council and City Plan Commission; speaking to neighborhood, civic, and business groups; holding community-wide open houses; and conducting public hearings prior to the adoption of the Plan. Information was also shared through multiple channels, from the City’s Richardson Today newspaper and Week in Review e-newsletter to distribution of material to community organizations and partners.
