HISTORY
A CENTURY OF SERVICE: THE RICHARDSON FIRE DEPARTMENT
Since the city's incorporation in 1925, the Richardson Fire Department has grown from a single donated fire truck into a fully professional, six-station force protecting the community it calls home. The city purchased its first fire truck in 1926 and organized a volunteer department, backed by a newly created Fire Marshal's Office. That volunteer spirit carried the city for over two decades — through its first ambulance in 1950 — until 1956, when Richardson hired its first four paid firefighters, marking the shift toward a professional department.
Today, the City invests in the Department’s renewal as much as expansion, with a modernized fleet and highly-trained team that Makes A Difference in Richardson every day.
