Public & Semi-public Swimming Pool Inspections

The Health Department conducts inspections of public and semi-public swimming pools and spas.

An application for a pool permit must be submitted by all properties with public or semi- public pools.

Renewal only - new applicants must apply in person on submit an application via mail.

Outdoor pools are inspected regularly throughout the swimming season. Indoor pools are inspected periodically year round. Inspections focus on all aspects of pools/spa operations including:

  • maintenance
  • construction
  • water clarity
  • chemical balance
  • fencing, filtration
  • safety equipment; and
  • warning signs 

Proper training for persons responsible for the care and maintenance of public & semi-public swimming pools and spas is extremely important. Pool operators are encouraged to attend a CPO (Certified Pool Operator’s) course. Many pool supply companies as well as several local health departments offer classes.
