Wildflower! Arts and Music Festival is an award-winning multi-day eclectic arts and music festival that draws thousands of attendees to Galatyn Park urban center. Festival programming includes six performance stages that feature national, regional and local bands, the Singer/Songwriter contest and stage, the Wildflower! Kids area, Wildflower! Eats, the Market Place, the Art Guitar Auction, and our interactive entertainment area - Performance Row. Wildflower! also hosts contests for kids and young adults- Student Art, Budding Talents and the Battle of The Bands. First held in 1993, Wildflower! now takes place the third weekend in May. Established in 1969, Cottonwood Art Festival is a bi-annual event featuring works from some of the nation’s top visual artists. A juried show with 240 artists, Cottonwood showcases art media in 14 different categories such as 2D and 3D mixed media, ceramics, digital, and drawings/pastels. The festival also features local bands and food available in the courtyard. There is also Artstop, an interactive children’s creative playground featuring activities and arts and crafts for kids of all ages. Cottonwood Art Festival is among the top art shows in the country and always takes place in Cottonwood Park the first full weekend in May and October. A fall tradition dating back to 1976, the Huffhines Art Trails is an annual arts and crafts show featuring 170 of the areas finest artisans. Patrons will find a variety of contemporary crafts, traditional crafts, and art in mediums that range from painting and pottery to glass, wood work and jewelry, a perfect place to start your holiday shopping. Nestled in the trees of Huffhines Park, Huffhines Art Trails takes place the fourth weekend in October.
The area’s best kept holiday secret, Santa’s Village is a heartwarming event for the young and the young at heart. Venture up to the North Pole (the lawn at City Hall) and explore Santa’s Village and even visit Ol’ Saint Nick himself! There’s plenty to see and do, from walking through the village to enjoying holiday themed entertainment on the main stage. The village is made up of 17 special houses including Ms. Claus’ Bakery, KELF TV Station, the Reindeer Shed, Frosty’s House, and the Ornament Factory, just to name a few. Santa’s Village is opened for ten nights in December. Volunteer opportunities are available at this event.
The Richardson Christmas Parade is an annual event which takes place the first Saturday in December. The route is alternated each year from the East and West side of town. Kids of all ages, community clubs and families are encouraged to participate in this Richardson tradition.
Sparks fly at the City of Richardson’s annual Family Fourth Celebration in Breckinridge Park. This traditional, patriotic event is always held on the national holiday and is free and open to the entire community. The Richardson Community Band performs their much anticipated patriotic concert that’s immediately followed by one of the largest fireworks shows in north Texas!
