Inclement Weather Plan
The City of Richardson will monitor the weather prior to and during the event. Should there be a threat of severe weather in the vicinity, the event may be delayed or canceled. If thunderstorms develop prior to the event, please call the event hotline at 972-744-4581 for the status of the fireworks display. If thunderstorms develop during the event, information on delays or cancellations will be announced from the stage. Should severe weather develop that could potentially affect the safety of the public, the City of Richardson may close the park and evacuation instructions will be announced.
Please note the closest storm shelter in proximity to Breckinridge Park (Entrance B) is Miller Elementary – 5651 Coventry Drive and the closest to Breckinridge Park (Entrance A) is Schell Elementary - 5301 E Renner Rd.
Public Notification Opt-in Available
The public may now opt-in for notifications specific to Richardson’s upcoming Family 4th Celebration. Anyone can text FAMILY4th to 888777, and their cell phone will be able to receive alerts regarding possible delays, weather notifications and other event information. Registered phones will be removed from the system after the event concludes.
Lost Child
To ensure families are reunited quickly, we encourage you to take a photo of your children the day of the event to be able to provide descriptions of their attire. Lost children will be directed to the Richardson Police Department Command Trailer, located at Entrance B.
Accessibility
The City of Richardson strives to ensure that the Family 4th Celebration is an accessible event. Breckinridge Park offers such accessible features as ADA trails, sidewalks and restrooms. The City will provide free shuttle service to parking lot B at Breckinridge Park. One of these shuttle buses is equipped with a lift for persons with mobility issues. For those with disability plates or placards, a limited number of disability parking spaces will be available at the Park's parking lots A and B.
Accommodation requests for persons with disabilities should be made at least 48 hours in advanced of the event by contacting ADACoordinator@cor.gov.
