2026 Challenge Results
Richardson finished first in the Large Community Division through its partnership with the University of Texas at Dallas.
The eight-week competition included 110 cities across five divisions and encouraged Texans to earn points by reporting healthy activities such as eating healthy, drinking water and exercising. Richardson finished in first place with 2.3 million points. Laredo and McAllen finished second and third.

Thank you to the residents, participants, City staff, UT Dallas partners and community members who helped Richardson earn first place. Your participation in daily health activities, special events and community programs helped make this achievement possible.
About the Challenge
The Healthier Texas Community Challenge is an eight-week health competition between communities across Texas. Participants earn points by making healthy choices, including physical activity, healthy eating and staying hydrated.
During the 2026 challenge, points were tracked through the Wellnify app, and Richardson offered free group classes and special events to support participation.
2026 Program Highlights
Richardson Parks and Recreation hosted free group classes and special events during the challenge, including fitness classes, yoga, cooking classes and a celebration walk/run event.
How Participants Earned Points
Participants earned points during the challenge by:
- Registering before the challenge began
- Reporting their first health action
- Taking the Health Champion Pledge
- Reporting healthy eating, physical activity and water consumption
- Checking in at group activities and healthy destinations such as parks and recreation centers
Participants who surpassed or accrued 25,000 points during the challenge will receive a tumbler cup.
