Since the adoption of the Active Transportation Plan (ATP) in February 2023, the City has been advancing projects to expand and enhance the active transportation network. More information on active and completed projects can be found below.

Active Projects

Cotton Belt Trail

Central Trail Extension

The project will construct off-street trail improvements from the existing Central Trail at Buckingham Road to the existing sidewalks adjacent to Dallas College Richland Campus at the intersection of Walnut Street and Abrams Road. The project is led by Dallas County in partnership with the City of Richardson. Future phases of this project in the City of Dallas will connect the trail with the Cottonwood Creek Trail and include a new crossing under IH-635. Collins Overpass Pedestrian and Bicycle Improvements

Jonsson Blvd

The project includes paving, water, and sanitary sewer construction along Jonsson Boulevard and Tatum Street which includes sidewalk repairs, completion of of the pavement, water and sanitary improvements, sidewalk repairs, completion of sidewalk gaps, a trail extension on Tatum from Waterview to Jonsson, and addition of bike lanes along Jonsson from Tatum to Mimosa. N Glenville Dr

This project will reduce the roadway from 4 lanes to 2 lanes between Arapaho Road and Campbell Road. The work consists of pavement reconstruction, improvements to public utilities, traffic signals, lighting, pedestrian sidewalks and separated bike lanes. The intersection of Glenville and Collins will be redesigned as a protected intersection with bike signals to enhance bicycle and pedestrian safety.
