The Animal Services Advisory Commission assists Richardson’s Animal Services Division raise awareness among residents about available services, shelter operations and compliance with state regulations. This commission serves in an advisory role only and does not have authority over any city officials, employees or other boards or commissions.

ROLE OF THE COMMISSION:

  • Assists the Animal Services Division of the City’s Health Department in complying with state and local laws.
  • Submits recommendations to the Animals Services Division.
  • Performs other duties as the City Council may prescribe by resolution ordinance.

COMMISSION MEMBERSHIP:

  • Committee appointed by City Council.
  • Three resident members.
  • One licensed veterinarian.
  • One representative from an animal welfare organization.
  • One municipal official.
  • The City of Richardson Animal Services Manager.
  • Two-year terms with a limit of four consecutive terms.

MEMBERSHIP ELIGIBILITY:

  • Must be a qualified voter.
  • Must have been a resident of Texas for at least one year.
  • Must be a Richardson resident for at least six months immediately prior to the date of appointment.
  • Must hold no elected public office.
  • Must not be in arrears in taxes or other liability due the City of Richardson.

MEETING FREQUENCY:

  • The committee is expected to meet three times a year.
  • Members are expected to attend at least 75% of scheduled meetings.
