Dan Barrios was elected to represent City Council Place 3 in May 2023. Prior to being elected, Barrios dedicated his time to being a serial volunteer with various nonprofits and community organizations. He is an alumnus of Leadership North Texas Class 16, Richardson CARES, INSIDE RISD, Richardson Citizen Police Academy, Leadership First, Legislative Chair for the RISD Council of PTAs Board, and served as a Commissioner for the Dallas County Historical Commission and on the Richardson YMCA Board.
Barrios and his family are active members at First United Methodist Church Richardson, where he has served in various ministries such as Body & Soul (homelessness), SPAN (Single Parent Action Network), Church & Society Committee, Leadership First Committee, and Kairos, where he served as a Texas Department of Criminal Justice prison volunteer. Barrios served the American Red Cross for over a decade in various local and national leadership roles as a volunteer such as Shelter Manager, Instructor and Volunteer Partner to the National Director on the Volunteer Intake Processing Center. Barrios is also proud being a part of the Indigenous American Art Community Work Group that helped redesign the Indigenous Art exhibit at the Dallas Museum of Art.
Barrios has taught Management and Marketing courses at Lake Highlands High School, Trinity Valley Community College and Dallas College. Prior to entering education, Barrios was a sales executive in the food and beverage industry, where he built regional and national sales teams and grew key accounts with some of the world’s largest retailers.
He is a graduate from Hanna High School in Brownsville, Texas and earned his MBA in Strategic Management from the University of North Texas. Barrios has lived in Richardson Place 3 since 2008 where he resides in Cottonwood Heights with wife, son, mother and dog.
