Mabel Simpson was elected to serve on the City Council in May 2015. She has been a Richardson resident for 53 years, living in the southwest quadrant until 1999, when she and her family moved to Canyon Creek in the Place 4 district.
Currently, Simpson sits on the Advisory Board at University of Texas at Dallas (UTD) for the Institute of Innovation and Entrepreneurship (IIE) within the Jindal School of Management, where she helped launch the “Girls Going Places” program. She also serves on the Legislative Committee of the Texas Land Title Association, focused on issues related to real property law and insurability.
Prior to her election to Richardson City Council, Simpson was involved with many community service programs. She served on the Richardson Hospital Authority’s Advisory Board, and then as a voting Trustee on the governing board for 10 years. Simpson served on the RHA Board through its successful partnership with and transition to the Methodist Hospital System.
Simpson is a graduate of Leadership Richardson and a past member of the Junior League of Richardson. She is a past board member of Cottonwood Creek Drainage Association, St. Paul the Apostle Catholic School Board, and Neighborhood Youth and Family Counseling Services of Richardson.
Simpson attended Richardson Independent School District schools from K-12, graduating from Richardson High School. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from Southwest Texas State (now Texas State) University, and worked in the oil and gas industry before earning a JD from University of Tulsa College of Law in 1987. She is licensed to practice law in Texas and is a member of the Dallas and Collin County Bar Associations. Simpson founded and leads a business and real estate law practice and a Fidelity National Title Company fee office in Richardson.
Simpson is married to Hugh Simpson, and they have two adult children.
