Humane Animal Traps

WHAT ARE THEY?
Wire cages that are baited with food to assist in the confinement of nuisance and nocturnal (night-time) critters.  These traps are humane and will not injure the animal that is trapped.  Whenever you trap an animal, call the animal shelter for pick up at (972) 744-4480.


WHAT KIND OF CRITTERS WILL THEY CAPTURE?
Humane traps are great for capturing domestic cats as well as dogs.  They are also very effective for wild animals found in the city limits which include:

  • Foxes
  • Opossums
  • Armadillos
  • Raccoons
  • Squirrels
  • Coyotes
  • Skunks
  • Bobcats
  • Feral cats
  • Stray dogs

WHERE DO I GET ONE?
The animal shelter (1330 Columbia) maintains an inventory of live capture humane box traps. These box traps are completely safe and are intended to confine and not injure the animal.

Residents may reserve one of these box traps free of charge by contacting the shelter at (972) 744-4480. 

*Please note, you may be put on a waiting list for a trap. Waiting lists can be anywhere from 1 day to 2 weeks depending on demand.

**Do not set traps in inclement weather condtions (extreme heat, cold, rain, etc.). Residents are responsible for the well-being of animals trapped and could face fines for inhumane treatment.
