Water Schedule and Conservation
The City of Richardson alternates between two conservation plans throughout the year, Summer beginning April 1 and Winter beginning November 1. The purpose of these conservation plans is to reduce the amount of water used throughout the community for lawn watering and to stagger the amount used on each day between even and odd addresses which helps keep our water towers operating at a consistent level.
Our Summer watering plan also has restrictions on the time of day home owners can water. Lawn irrigation that occurs outside of the permitted time is inefficient due to evaporation. It's always better to water lawns during late or early hours during the heat of the summer. The opposite is true during the cold winter months as watering during freezing temperatures is dangerous both to your watering system as well as other residents. The last thing you want is to ice driveways or sidewalks or to risk the possibility of damaging your irrigation pipes.
